I am a native Texan, a wife, mother, and holder of Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in vocal music from Prairie View A&M University, Prairie View, Texas.

Through elementary and high school, I loved to sit for hours drawing beautiful pictures, but never considered being an art teacher. I was told that music was my calling. And since singing was as natural for me as sketching a picture, I majored in vocal music.
During my senior year in College, I took several art classes and wanted to minor in art, but didn’t follow my passion. Even though being hired as a music teacher, my artistic backdrops for Musicals and art that related to music led the principal to suggest that I teach fine arts subjects (music/ art/ theatre arts) for the elementary grades. The art kept me happy.
After 31 years of teaching, I retired to pursue my passion. After trying several things that didn’t work out, I began painting pictures on river stones. My son calls me “Rock Whisperer” because I feel the stone until it shows me what it is to become. Those who saw my picture stones during a city-wide yard sale bought them, and told me I should share my art on a wider scale. I didn’t take it serious until my cousin, a playwright, came to visit, saw the stones and took it upon herself to get in touch with an art gallery in Houston. Not knowing that there were others who shared my passion, I hesitantly presented my stones to the gallery’s owner and she, to my surprise, accepted all that I had with me.

About My Painted Picture Stones
My stones are one-of-a-kind collectibles that can be displayed on stands or used as paper weights. They are unusual conversational pieces, colorful, creative gifts and keepsakes. I use 2x3 ½ to 3x5 inch river stones as a traditional painter uses canvas. I love the challenge of painting small pictures that sometimes wrap around the stone. It’s almost like getting two pictures for the price of one. By using people, places and things as subjects, I can create from a wide variety of themes, such as: music, dance, seasons, nature, emotions and the list goes on.
